Unravel Live - FEBRUARY 2019

This month we joined forces with our friends at The Shanghai Literary Review and Shaving in the Dark for a very special edition live show. When we got together in the fall to discuss this collaboration, WAVES emerged as the theme that excited and linked us all.  And what better way to capture and honor this frenetic city by the sea, through which waves of people, places, and ideas continue to wash?

The show featured the launch of “Shanghai Waves” - a special edition comic book written by writers from The Shanghai Literary Review and illustrated by artists from Shaving in the Dark - as well as live drawing of our stories onto Yuyintang Park’s kickass LED screen and graphic recordings of the stories courtesy of Shaving in the Dark. Stories ranged from insane ant infestations to record breaking open water swims from Shenzhen to Hainan; mistaken paternal identities to waves of knowledge and doubt.

The Shanghai Literary Review is an English-language print literary journal that features quality creative work from or about Asia and introduces new voices to the critical conversation on world literature.

Shaving in the Dark is a Shanghai- based collective of artists (some say "nerds") with a passion for comics and illustration. We like to think of ourselves as a community-driven platform for free expression and indie comics publication to liberate the cartoons lurking inside all of us.
